After (sadly) leaving our friends in Durham, we headed south into London. London is one of my favorite cities and its was so much fun sharing it with the boys. We stayed in the darling Harlingford Hotel, just around the corner from the British Museum, where we hunted for mummies and saw the spoils from Britain’s many conquests. We roamed around the city, visited Leicester Square and Picadilly Circus, took in a show in the west end (Matilda – it was FANTASTIC), and shopped our way through Covent Garden, where Aidan was attacked by a busker. We geeked out and found the Tardis (or the closest thing we would get to the Tardis), ate sundaes in Harrods and watched a magic show in their toy kingdom. Augie enjoyed the many fancy escalators – his favorites were at The Natural History Museum and the Egyptian Escalator in Harrods. We rode the London Eye, visited Buckingham Palace, fed some pigeons as we walked through St. James Park, rode a double-decker bus, and climbed the lions in Trafalgar Square. We rode the tube and visited the Tate Modern, walked the South Bank and watched some skateboarding, ate lots of fantastic food, saw Big Ben and some other landmarks, and toured the Tower of London. London was fantastic!
Then, we headed through the chunnel via the Eurostar (Augie was pretty happy with this) to Paris. We stayed right around the corner from the Eiffel Tower and happily spent our quick visit walking the Seine, braving the top of the Tower, and eating some lovely food. Then we were off again…next stop, Italy!!
